Welcome to Year 5!

Welcome to the Year 5 page!

We hope that you had a wonderful and enjoyable summer holiday. We are very excited to welcome you to our year group and we have been working hard to prepare the best we can for your return.

We understand that the children have been off school for a while, so we will spend the start of the term getting to know the children and familiarising them with any new routines and procedures. Your child’s emotional and social well-being is our priority and we will focus on this during the first couple of weeks back. Some of the topics we will explore include; dealing with worries, feelings about being back at school, friendships and keeping safe and healthy. Please let a member of the Year 5 team know if your child has any worries or concerns.

The school day is very similar to what the children experienced in Year 4. In the mornings, the children will come in and complete some Early Morning Work. The teaching sessions will then begin with Destination Reader, English and Maths. The afternoons will consist of Integrated Studies, Science, Art, P.E and ICT lessons. The first term will be fundamental for helping us to identify gaps in knowledge due to the school closure. We will therefore assess the children during this period and use these assessments to support the children where necessary.

We recognise that there have been many changes in the world around us. Our aim in Year 5 is to establish a safe, comfortable and happy classroom, where we inspire pupils to love learning and reach their full potential.
See you all soon!
